On this part of my homepage, you'll find some of my favorite bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and take out restaurants in New York. I'll also include a brief description of the place as well as what I like to eat or drink there. If you ever come to the City, you should definitely check out these places!

NICK'S LOBSTERS

2777 Flatbush Avenue
Brooklyn, NY 11234

(718) 253-7117

This is the best place to eat lobster at an affordable price (For $15 you can get a 1 pound lobster with a side dish of steak fries and corn on the cob). The place is not very fancy but still nice: you can sit inside or in the open under a tent and watch the fisherboats on the channel. They also have other great (sea) food, but lobsters are all I care for!
Nick's Lobsters is located on Flatbush Avenue past King's Plaza. To get there you should either go by car or car servive or take the B41 to King's Plaza and walk along Flatbush for another 5-10 Minutes. Or, for the full Flatbush experience, you can also take a dollar van down Flatbush to King's Plaza. It's definitely worth the trip!

SANTA FE GRILL

7th Avenue, corner of Lincoln Place

Park Slope, Brooklyn

Mexican Food.

Not as good as my all time favorite "Bravo's" but since Bravo's is no longer, this is the best alternative in Park Slope...

Great Margaritas and nice bar.

LEMONGRASS GRILL

7th Avenue, corner of Lincoln Place

Park Slope, Brooklyn

Thai cuisine.

I've only eaten Pad Thai there so far but that was excellent!

COCINA CUZCO
Comida Latina

7th Ave, corner 3rd Street

Park Slope, Brooklyn

Great Spanish food.

They have sea food, steaks and other things.

SOTTO VOCE

7th Ave, corner 4th Street

Park Slope, Brooklyn

Italian restaurant, very nice place.

KOBMA

52 5th Ave,
corner of Bergen Street

Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY 11217

Japanese and Thai Grill.

The day this place opened marked the beginning of a new era:
Now I can get all the types of ethnic food I love while staying within 2 blocks from my apartment (Sushi had been the last thing missing).

LA TERRAZA

82 6th Ave
corner of St. Mark's Place

Brooklyn, NY 11217

Spanish food.

This is part of the great restaurants just around my block. This one is not so nice though (in the summer you can sit ouside, which is better), but the food is really good. I usually get the arroz con pollo.

PIZZATOWN

85 5th Ave
(b/w Park Place and Prospect Place)

Brooklyn, NY 11217

Pizza and pasta.

I usually don't eat there but take the food home, because the restaurant is not nice, but believe me: the pizza there is excellent!
The people there are really Italian and some of their pizza is really fabulous. My favorite is the Sofia Loren Pizza or the square pies with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella.

BRAVOS (The Healthy Expression)

72 Fifth Avenue (corner of St. Mark's Place)

Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY 11217

(718) 230-1464

Mexican Take Out Restaurant

It's also nice for eating in, although it has a rather weird light inside and usually Spanish TV is on (or they play Latin Music!)

Unfortunately, Bravos closed its doors at the end of December 2001. All that remains, is its great yellow roof...

Cheese Quesadilla.....................$3.00
  • W/ Beans .....................Add $0.50
  • W/ Guacamole..............Add $0.75

Typical Burrito...........................$5.25

  • Served with Rice, Beans, Cheese & Pico de Gallo. Guacamole and Sour Cream on the side.

Caesar Salad w/ Grilled Chicken.....$6.50

STEINHOF

7th Avenue, corner of 9th Street

Park Slope, Brooklyn

Austrian place. (sigh!)

Not that it's that great but good enough for inexpensive Austrian food, like Cheese Spaetzle and Scheiterhaufen. I think they also serve Goesser Bier.

MAX & MORITZ

7th Avenue,
b/w 9th and 10th Street

Park Slope, Brooklyn

Austrian cafe/ restaurant.

I haven't been to this one yet. It is owned by the same Austrian guy who owns the Steinhof, but I heard Max & Moritz is more an idyllic restaurant with garden in the back. I'll let you know how the food is as soon as I've tried it.

"Sushi 1"*)

Smith Street,
corner of Baltic Street

Brooklyn

*) I don't remember the name of the place

Sushi and other Asian food, LOTS of different food.

A great place to eat Sushi and other Japanese/Asian food. Their menu is huge.
The place itself is really nice and less than a year old, the only problem is that sometimes you have to wait to get a table especially if you are in a group and sometimes the food takes really long, but they have great cocktails as well.

In the summer you can sit in the open.

"Sushi 2"*)

Court Street, slightly south of Butler

Brooklyn

*) I don't remember the name of the place

Sushi.

Very good Sushi and really nice restaurant. Only in the summer they tend to freeze you to death because they turn the A/C on too low...

UNCLE GEORGE'S

"ALWAYS OPEN"

GREEK TAVERN

33-19 Broadway

Astoria, New York

As the name already suggests, this is a Greek tavern. It's located in the middle of Astoria, New York's Greek quarter. The food tastes like in Greece and both Greeks and Americans eat there. They even have the plastic tablecloths and all.

Everything I would also eat in Greece.

They have excellent Greek Salad, fantastic Souvlaki, Calamares, Lamb Chops,... and French Fries are called "patates".

Best treat: A glass of Retsina costs only $1.50, but, like they do in Greece, they also sell it by the kilo.

JOE'S SHANGHAI RESTAURANT

Chinatown Branch:

9 Pell Street, New York, NY 10013

(212) 233 8888

www.joesshanghai.com

Located in the middle of Chinatown, this is the perfect place to have lunch after visiting the neighbor-hood. The restaurant, however, is ugly and always crowded (there is usually a 20 minutes wait and you have to get a number). They do not accept reservations.

They are famous for their dumplings, especially the ones with the soup inside.

I also love their fried noodles.

SAMMY'S NOODLES

somewhere on 6th Avenue b/w 10th and 11th street (?)

Manhattan

Great Chinese restaurant outside of Chinatown. Not too crowded.

General Tso's Chicken (I'm not sure about the name)

Everything with noodles.

I've never had any bad food there!

FLYING BURRITOS

165 West 4th Street, NYC

(between 6th and 7th Ave)

(212) 691-3663

Great Mexican Restaurant. The decoration is funky (they have very interesting lamps) and the music is not too loud, so you can talk. They usually don't mind if you just want to get a drink.

Master Quesadilla - A lightly browned soft flour tortilla with melted jack cheese folded over fresh salsa, rice beans, jalapenos & guacamole.................................................$6.50

Stomping Burrito (Beef) .............$6.50

Margaritas

  • frozen lime Margarita.............$5.50
  • [$2.75 during Happy Hour (5-7pm)]
  • flavored Margaritas (raspberry, blueberry,

CROOKED TREE Creperie

110 Saint Marks Place, Manhattan

(212) 533-3299

Very small and cozy creperie in the East Village. The right place for your sweet cravings (although they also have Savory Crepes). And, for some bizarre reason, the place is always empty.

Sugar, Butter, & Lemon Crepe..$3.00

Nutella & Banana (aah!).............$5.00

BAGEL POINT CAFE

231 Court Street, Brooklyn

Ok, this is where I usually buy my lunch. They have great bagels w/ flavored cream cheese and good soups.

Bagel with Vegetable Cream Cheese or Chive Cream Cheese....................$1.50

Lentil Soup (w/ Bagel).................$3.25

WINDOWS OF THE WORLD

World Trade Center, Manhattan

Of all the places listed here, this is the only one where you will encounter tourists. It's located on the 107th floor of the WTC. Cocktails are expensive but you don't pay cover charges on Wednesdays when they have their very European disco (expect to hear Falco and "99 Luftballons"). And the view from up there is breathtaking!

Cocktails and Longdrinks...........$9.50

  • Gin Tonic
  • Margaritas
  • Long Island Ice Tea

7A

Restaurant - Bar

109 Avenue A (at 7th Street)

East Village, Manhattan

Ahhh! One of my favorite bars in the East Village. Usually they play cool music (not too loud) and it's a pleasure to watch the barkeeper (a woman) mix your drink.

Margaritas..................................$5.50

  • frozen
  • on the rocks
  • flavored

I never ate anything there!
